“Very friendly and extremely helpful” Reviewed July 29, 2012 NEW Gede was the third driver I hired during my stay in Bali. The first one was organised through my hotel in Sanur and I doubt that he was a professional tourist driver. The second one was ok, but charging extra for tours outside the major tourist areas. A third one (a couple of days later) I had organised when he let me down a day before. So that is when I found Gede through Tripadvisor and I was lucky that he was able to drive me at such short notice. His english is very good and he has a lot of knowledge about everything you might want to know about Bali. He is always on time (actually he was early and always already waiting for me). Gede doesn't try to take you to touristy places where he gets a comission or tries to talk you out of going somewhere, on the contrary he stops wherever you want to stop and even can recommend some less touristy places. 2 days before the end of my holiday I had my handbag stolen , and with it all my money, cards, phone, camera and passport. I count myself extremely lucky that I was able to hire Gede for the following day, when I had to organise money, passport and new visa. It made everything sooo much easier having him helping me (translating, etc.), at the post office collecting money from overseas, getting passport photos made, and with the officials at the immigration office for the visa. That day would have been a lot longer and a lot more stressfull for me without Gede's help. At the end I even had some hours left to enjoy the rest of my holiday on the beach before gede dropped me off at the airport. Thanks heaps Gede!!!

Responsible Driver

“Punctual and responsible driver in Bali” Reviewed July 18, 2012 NEW via mobile We visited Bali in March 2012 and hired Gede to be our driver for 3 days trip. Gede is very responsive, responsible and puncture driver. It was our first time to Bali (especially for the first timer), really need to find such a good driver and we are lucky to have Gede :-) Although our trip to Bali is 5D4N and suppose to explore more places in Bali; however, our trip crashed with Nyepi Day and raining session. Thus, we could only had very limited places to visit. But, look on the bright side, we were having a chance to participate on the Nyepi Day celebration. Indeed it was cool & unforgettable memory in Bali. Again, thank you Gede for your great service. Appreciate It.

“Trustworthiness and Cultural Knowledge Personified” Reviewed July 14, 2012 NEW We went to Northern Bali in February and Gede was our highly regarded driver. He has local and national knowledge, which is informative, and he is able to meet the more specialized needs around art, culture and historical visits. He is intuitive to guests needs and is respectful and 100% honest. Gede has local knowledge of the whole island. He took us to the North of the island to Aditya Resort where we were able to relax. Gede is a resourceful and careful driver very well worth contacting.

“Recommend Gede as an excellent driver in Bali” Reviewed July 13, 2012 NEW We first met Gede in 2010 via a recommendation from a friend and since that trip have recommended him to all our friends travelling in Bali. They have all also experienced and appreciated his great service. We have just returned from our 2nd visit and called on Gede's services once more. He is a very interesting and intelligent driver who can offer so much information and sometimes suggestions for interesting day trips with some "off the beaten track" locations. He is extermely polite, always punctual, speaks English very well, a safe driver and trustworthy. One of the highlights of this trip was a day trip into the mountain and lake area of central Bali. On this trip to Bali we had the occasion to experience other drivers (as part of travel and accomodation packages) and non of them were even close to Gede. We then realised how lucky we were to meet him.

Great Driver

“A great driver with a deep knowledge of Balinese culture” Reviewed July 8, 2012 NEW We visited Bali in January this year and asked Gede to be our driver. It has been our best bet of all driver in Bali. Gede is an excellent, safe and friendly driver. He always on time when pick you up from the hotel. Most of the times he even came 10 mins earlier! Gede has been in this industry for almost 20 years. He has a deep knowledge of Balinese culture and it made our trip to Bali even more worthwhile. Thank you for the memorable holiday. I would recommend him to anyone planning to visit the Island of God.

Mount Batur

Trip for those who like adventure This is my first adventure to climb a mountain, I often take tourists (guests) to climb but I have never accompanied them, usually I take a nap in the car at the time the the guest is gone, but this time I wanted to have a new experience. Before I left I was really perplexed and also I felt scared. "Would I be able to make it to the top?", because until this time I had never climbed. But my fears were overcome by my wish to know 'what does it feel like at the top (summit) and what is up there'? This question chased away my fear. The three of us left Kuta at 2 AM, the feelings of fear returned to the point that I was thinking of not going along to climb. But the feeling of wanting to know was greater so the fear disappeared. We more or less covered the distance from Kuta in an hour and a half because there wasn't much traffic so that we could speed up a bit ( go fast) in order to arrive more quickly. .Finally we arrived at our destination. At the start of the climb there were two trails; the one closer to Pura Jati was for those who wanted to climb to the summit starting from a further distance but a less steep ( flatter) trail. We started our climb from the other trail on the eastern slope of the trek. The air was very cold ( tiang bingung yen 'begitu', so cold, very cold, rather cold?) and it was also very dark. After we met out guide, we started to climb. Before I proceeded onward, I thought "was there anything that we needed that was at the bottom? Food? Drink?". We started to trek in the dark of the night so our guide brought us a flashlight. I was in the first group that left. I was afraid my fears would again show up because before we had traveled 30 minutes, I was out of breath because the trail was becoming steep and rocky. My friends and I walked rather slowly. Below us I was able to see a light that was moving. The closer the light got the more it moved.....the shining light was like a butterfly, the longer the time, the closer it got. Because I was hiking rather slowly, finally that group of tourists with the light went ahead of us. The farther they went the more they were lost in the dark of the night so that all that was seen was the shine of their lights. The longer I walked, the more I was out of breath. I started to think about stopping because I was really tired, and my legs were feeling really heavy. Luckily, my guide was giving us encouragement, 'Keep going, don't give up'. Our guide kept saying we were already getting close. The color red was already starting to appear in the eastern sky, and I myself slowly walked with the remaining energy I had. The conditions were getting clearer and I began to be able to see around me. The beauty was beginning to appear, before I could only see darkness. The feeling of exhaustion started to be healed by the view that was so beautiful. The sun began to appear, ...finally I myself arrived at the summit....I was so happy..the feelings of exhaustion disappeared as I was able to see the view from the summit. It was a really really good feeling....the view was so astonishing... beautiful very beautiful. The beauty of the view was worth the exhausting efforts!

“The Best Tour Guide Ever Gede” Reviewed June 16, 2012 NEW We used Gede to see Bali and he was great. He is very knowledgable about Bali and understands Australian humour as well. I would recommend his service to anybody who wants to taylor their experience to what they want rather than be given a organised trip. Gede worked with us for weeks prior to our tour so we could see what we wanted to see, 10/10.

Sharon Bailey - 2012-06-11 08:12:27 We are a family of 5 and my sister who is a frequent visitor to Bali put us onto Gede. For novices we found Gede’s assistance of not just getting us from ’A" to "B" as invaluable but also his recommendations in relation to other tourist activities we should go see. He recommended we get passes to the Bali Safari that includes lunch and elephant rides and we were not disappointed. When we changed our itinery to come back from Gili Islands to Padangai bai instead of Sanur, he was happy to come get us instead of relying on the boat service pickup. Kuta is crazy and we all felt safe in his hands with the traffic chaos that exists, not to mention how not to get ripped off or sucked in by the bargainers - even though we still problably did. He runs a clean and affordable service and when we get back there, we will definately be calling upon his service again.

Jatiluwih Rice Terrace

Jatiluwih,one of the most picturesque areas lies about 20 kilometers north of Tabanan,in Bali's western.Situated majestically in the hills 850 meters above sea level,jatiluwih maens"really beautiful" An appropriate,undulating hills and valleys.

Excellent Service

We arrived (Patrick, Andrew and I ) at Kuta airport, and Gede was sharp on time. The whole trip went smooth just like the itinerary that Gede quoted to us. Time allocation was great, and we arrived at each locations almost all at its prime time (Tanah Lot in the evening, Ulu Danu in the morning, Tegalalang paddy terrace in the evening), allowing us to capture beautiful photos. (yes, we are photo maniac ) Gede also gave us advice on food selection, the do’s and don’ts which make your trip "hassle free". Andrew said " I give his service A+"

Rice Field

There are four words for rice namely : • Pad is growing rice plant(hence paddy fields). • Gabah is rice after harvesting. • Beras is uncooked grain. • Nasi is cooked rice. As Nasi goring( fried rice ) and nasi putih( plain rice).A rice field is called Sawah.The whole rice field has a farmer organization called “Subak”. The Subak as an organization of the farmers Wet Rice agriculture,especially as practiced in Bali,is far too complex and requires too much regulation,particularly in conditinating use of irrigation system,for one farmer to practice alone or even in conjunction with a few others.Consequently,a highly specialized farm of agricultural association has evolved over the centuries in Bali to coordinate the maximal usage of the environment for the growing of the wet rice .These irrigation cooperative,knows as “Subak” are responsible for the allocation of water resourse,and maintenance of irrigation networks,for coordinating planting and for insuring that all religious rituals to insure good harvests are performed. Subak organizations are usually comprised of all individuals owning land irrigated by a single dam and major canal.The water form a single subak dam may be divided intio dozens and even hundreds of channels to irrigate to terraced sawah.In determining the many issues involved in wet rice cultivation ( when to plant,who is responsible for cleaning and guarding canals,regulating water flow,etc) group votes are taken.Each subak members has one votes regardless of the size of his holding.Generally,all subak leaders are elected by group decision.Thus,for the entire peasant farmer’s expertise in using his environment for we rice,without the subak to coordinate activities it is unlikely that the sawah system could ever reached its current level of pervasiveness’ efficiency and productivity. Subak in Bali does not belong to the Banjar and has own leader.The people who become the Subak members are not always the same people who become the Banjar members.The Subak members are the oweners or the people who work on the rice field that getting water irrigation from the dams regulated by a Subak organization.Not all of the Subak members live in the same banjar.On the other hand,there could be a Banjar members who has many rice fields in different areas and get the water irrigation from the dams organized by several Subaks.Therefore this Banjar member will join himself in all of the Subak where his rice fields located. Subak irrigation sytem besides as an appropriate techonological sytem,but as a cultural sytem as well.This phenomenon indicate that basically subak irrigation. Sytem is a techonoligical sytem that has been develoved as a part of cultural society.Because subak sytem is viewed as a techonogical sytem,so this sytem has an ability to be transformed.Meanwhile limitation of the ability of subak irrigation sytem to overcome the extreme conditions,basically can be solved through the harmony and togetherness,based on the Tri Hita Karana ( THT) principle as basic of subak sytem.Furthermore,through inverse technique,it can be seen the ability of subak sytem,that can be transformed.And then,through Fuzzy Set Theory,it can be see the dominance or ranks of the all elements of subak sytem,which are alsi as a consideration on the transformation process.

Mola-Mola Season,

I believe Mola-Mola(Ocean sunfish) are in Bali's waters year round ( recorded as deep as as 360 M)but generally only come up to recreation diving depths July to mid-November. Mola-Mola are the world's heaviest bony fish,can be 3,5m high,reach 2,300kg,and have up to 300 millon eggs.You can see their unusual shape in this photo ( mola is latin for ' millstone')...and believe it or not,their closet relatives are pufferfish,porcupinefish and filefish. Their diet,like that of turtles,is mainly jellyfish hence plastic bags can be hazardous. Up to 40 kinds of parasites live on MOla-Mola and it is while they are being cleaned by schools of Longfin bannerfish that we are abale to see then stationary for any length time. The most likely sites to see Mola-Mola are over at Nusa Penida and outside Padangbai/Candidasa although there have been rare,early morning sightings on the Liberty shipwreck in Tulamben

Uluwatu:

is the most famous surf point in this area,with waves surf able up to 20 feet( faces).This surf point is for intermediate to experience surfer only.The only entry and exit is through a cave located at the base of cliffs.Best on mid tide....offering 5 peaks to choose from depending on the swell direction and the tide. This left hand wave is fast and sucks,offering tube rides from the experienced.Just north of Uluwatu is Padang -Padang this wave is body boarders dream with super sucks left habd tube ride,only for experienced surfers.
