Hindu Temple

While Bali is famous for its surf, sand and sunshine, it’s also a culture firmly rooted in spirituality. Daily worship has been a part of local life for thousands of years and this can be seen in the some 20,000 Hindu puras (temples) that dot the island.

No visit to Bali would be complete without a pilgrimage to these ancient spiritual sites, some dating back more than 1000 years. However, with a vast array of temples spread around the island, it can be difficult to know which temples are worth slotting into your itinerary.

Sanur Beach - The perfect place to relax

Sanur Beach, Bali's earliest beach resort, features a relaxed coastal ambiance. Located on the eastern side of the island's isthmus, it is the opposite of Kuta, both in characteristics and nuance. The former fishing village maintains most of its charm and continues to attract repeat visitors, mostly from Europe. Among Bali’s first hotels and beachfront retreats, together with an eclectic mix of restaurants, shops and bars and an assortment of innovative and modern entertainment venues share the Sanur Beach coastline. Known for its laidback atmosphere, Sanur Beach maintains its wealth in arts and culture, making it an ideal destination to enjoy the best of both eras, classic and contemporary.

Sanur Beach is the perfect place to hang out with the whole family. It’s not as crowded as Kuta Beach, but it is clean and doesn’t have any waves, the perfect place to go for everybody. Sun chairs are available for about two Dollars. Various Shops invite you to try your hand at negotiating. The promenade invites you to take a stroll around and for those who like cycling, it offers a nice opportunity to hire a bike and push those pedals.

As in every tourist place you have sales people, trying to make deals with you, but compared to Kuta it can be described as ‘not too bad’. The traffic compared to Kuta is by far less and if you would like to see a tourist place with a nice beach and full of opportunities, spend at least one day here. Sanur Beach is highly recommended to families, couples and those who would like to swim in a calm sea.

Discover the natural beauty of some of Bali’s waterfalls.

Safety tips for visiting Bali waterfalls.

  • Don’t underestimate how slippery the pathways and rocks surrounding the waterfalls can be. The most common injuries are from people slipping on the rocks.
  • Beware the level of water rising when it rains. Particularly in the wet season (December – March) heavy rainfalls can swell the rivers and make access to some waterfalls quite dangerous, especially those accessed through gorges.
  • Travel light, but wear good walking shoes or sandals and take a change of clothes as getting a little wet from the spray is expected at some, and from wading through the riverbed at others.
  • Some of the waterfalls you can access independently, usually by paying an entrance fee, and others are best accessed with the help of a local guide. In fact, some can only be found using a local guide!
