Corona Virus Bali Indonesia News Archive

Some traditional markets change their operational hours and closed due to Covid-19 outbreak

Local authorities in Bali are starting to do some adjustment on the way of providing services for the public. Some regions in Bali have followed the advisory published by The Minister of Home Affairs, Republic of Indonesia in letter with number 440/2436/SJ/2020, regarding the prevention of Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the local community.

For example the mayor of Denpasar, IB Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra who has already published an advisory letter with number 434/574/DKIS/2020 dated March 26th, 2020. In this letter the major advises all the people in Denpasar to limit their activity outside the house, especially in terms of doing grocery shopping by moving to use online shopping services. This measure is expected to be able to minimize the number of crowds as a part of Social and Physical Distancing practices in public places like traditional markets and grocery stores. Furthermore, hopefully near in the future all the people in Denpasar are also expected to get comfortable in using e-money. This is very important as money (bank notes) are considered to have become one of the biggest media spread of the virus.

Several traditional markets in Denpasar starts from today March 30th are accessible via Go-Shop feature in Go-Jek app. "Starting tomorrow, the markets will be available via online on Gojek (GoShop, feature) on Badung Market, Kumbasari, Gunung Agung, Kereneng, Ketapean, Satria, Sanglah, Pidada, Anyar Sari, Cokroaminoto, and Abiantimbul," added the local authority IB Kompyang Wiranata on Sunday March 29.

Beaches and beach clubs are closed for temporary, Mar 30th

Since the Governor of Bali has released his decree No. 7194 Year 2020 all the tourist attractions and public places including beaches and beach clubs are being shut down all over Bali. This morning, the access to Berawa and Batu Bolong beach are barricaded with portals and some local security (pecalang) are on standy by.

Many beach clubs are also on pause, most of them have posted closing announcements since last week. Here are some of the notifications that we have gathered from their official social media accounts.

Basic protective measures against the new coronavirus

Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, available on the WHO website and through your national and local public health authority. Most people who become infected experience mild illness and recover, but it can be more severe for others. Take care of your health and protect others by doing the following:

Wash your hands frequently
Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain social distancing
Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Practice respiratory hygiene
Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early
Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.

Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider
Stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19. Follow advice given by your healthcare provider, your national and local public health authority or your employer on how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on whether COVID-19 is spreading in your area. They are best placed to advise on what people in your area should be doing to protect themselves.

Protection measures for persons who are in or have recently visited (past 14 days) areas where COVID-19 is spreading

Follow the guidance outlined above.

  • Stay at home if you begin to feel unwell, even with mild symptoms such as headache and slight runny nose, until you recover. Why? Avoiding contact with others and visits to medical facilities will allow these facilities to operate more effectively and help protect you and others from possible COVID-19 and other viruses.
  • If you develop fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical advice promptly as this may be due to a respiratory infection or other serious condition. Call in advance and tell your provider of any recent travel or contact with travelers. Why? Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also help to prevent possible spread of COVID-19 and other viruses.

The Batukau Procession – a Snapshot

The  ‘Karya Agung Pengurip Gumi’ (The Great Rites to Revitalise the Earth) is complex in ways that Balinese ceremonies excel in. There is huge amount of organization; and then the orderly chaos of execution when planning meets real-life logistical complexities. Yet where there is a will there is a way, the Balinese always forge through and get the job done in one way or the other.

Travel Tips to Bali 2020

Whether you’re a Bali first-timer or a regular, these Bali travel tips will always come in handy.

You can have the most wonderful time of your life or even experience some unfortunate events when traveling to Bali.

Just like visiting any new country, understanding the island before you arrive can help you manage your expectations.

The island is beautiful, but of course there are certain things that simply don’t work the way you are used to.

Make the most out of your trip to the island of Gods by following these Bali travel tips.

Stay safe on the road
If you’re using a motorbike to scoot around the island, always wear a helmet!

You may see many people on the roads without helmets, or in some cases even shirts, however, it is required by Indonesian law to wear and clip up your helmet when you ride, and, you will need one to stay safe.

Road accidents do happen, and it is better to be safe than sorry. Falling off your scooter hurts but having protective gear will minimize the damage.

If possible, also wear a jacket to prevent any scratches and to protect you from sun burn. If you plan to drive, make sure you have an international driving license.

If not, then simply order online transportation to commute around the island.

Expect hot sunny days
As a tropical island, Bali has the best weather all year long. Most days, you will be bathed in warm sunshine and it is best to always use a sunblock.

Forget your jeans. Pack your shorts, bikinis, sunglasses, and even bring a cap or a hat. Use cotton t-shirts and open toe-shoes.

Don’t forget to drink a lot of water as well, but not from a tap. Bring your own water bottle or purchase bottled water in mini markets instead.

Keep your belongings safe
Although Bali is a safe island, petty crime and snatch-theft does occasionally happen unfortunately. As a precaution, always use a safety deposit box if it is available in your hotel.

Keep your doors and windows locked at all times. When walking on the streets, always carry your bag in front of you and never flash any fancy items.

Avoid “Bali belly”
You don’t want to leave the island with bad memories of you rushing back and forth to the bathroom caused by “Bali belly” – basically, diarrhea triggered from consuming food and drinks with bad hygiene.

This is a relatively common ailment, but there are a number of ways to avoid it.

  • Be cautious of where you are eating. Only eat from trustworthy restaurants.
  •  Some of our recommendations are :
  •  Kuta – Pavoz Bar & Restaurant
  •  Legian – Topix Asia Restaurant
  • Drink filtered or bottled water only. Avoid getting water in your mouth during a shower.
  • Always wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer.
  • Know where your fruits and veggies come from. Always wash them first before consuming. It  is best to buy whole fruits and cut them up yourself rather than buying peeled and pre-cut  fruits.
  • Make sure to stay safe during your trip by following the above Bali travel tips. Enjoy a pleasant holiday by staying with us at Sun Island Bali.

We have plenty of accommodation for you to choose from hotel in Kuta or Legian, resort, villas or suites! All located in close proximity to popular tourist areas.

Balinese Culture

Bali culture is unique and famous especially for its rich and vibrant arts. Various forms of dance and music have made Bali's arts and culture scene one of the most diverse in the world. Hinduisim as the main religion is the major influence behind its development. Music, drama, dance and costumes become a feast for the senses during temple festivities. Rites of passage at Balinese family households can almost be seen daily, celebrating the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Special cultural dates and highlights also mark the calendar, through annual art festivals and local revelries that visitors should check out to make the best of their visit

Art is everywhere in Bali. From the intricate flower decorations in a Barong dancer's headdress, to elaborately carved temple facades and beautiful oil paintings. Bali's performing arts are also an integral part of Balinese culture.

Music and dance play a huge part in significant rituals and religious ceremonies. Known as " the Island of the Gods" hardly a day goes by without a ceremony or festival taking place. Traditional dances with full gamelan orchestras are performed for tourists daily in addition to the day to day religious ceremonies. Definitely worth seeing.

Barong Dance
The Barong is triumphant display of graceful movement and vibrant colour. The dance is basically a contest between the opposing forces of Rangda - chaos and destruction, and Barong - order. (Basically good and evil.)

 Kecak Dance
The kecak is a ritual dance which was created in the early 1930's for the movie "Island of the Demons" by the German painter and intellectual Walter Spies. The dance combines the chorus of the "Sanghyang" trance dance with a dance story from the epic "Ramayana." It is extremely impressive with its circular chorus of sometimes over 100 bare-chested male singers.

There's probably more Bali temples than homes on the island. Many temples in Bali are actually shrines. However, the number of religious compounds might well be over 10,000. The number is spread throughout the far-flung corners of the island, from mountain and hilltops to low-lying coastal areas. Bali temples are normally peaceful and desolate. They transform into scenes of great activity during festivals or temple anniversaries. Traditional dance performances, cockfighting and even gambling often takes place during such events. You’ll find that each of Bali’s temples is unique. They may either face towards the mountains, the sea or towards sunrise.

Bali is not just a tropical paradise, it is also a cultural adventure for you to take on. There are many tropical beaches in the world, but only Bali offers them with its spiritual, traditional values you will not find elsewhere. Balinese Hinduism is distinctive for its addition to the island’s own traditional values.

For Balinese people, this aspect of their life is extremely important. And knowing that you, a visitor to their island, acknowledge it, and they will give you nothing but respect in return. Plus, it will give your vacation spiritual experiences you’ll never have elsewhere. So, get ready to make some changes to your itinerary for this tropical island of gods.
