One Day Guide to Nusa Penida Island, Indonesia

Nusa Penida is one of the three islands Nusa islands in Indonesia. Penida island is the biggest out of the three islands but also the least developed island until recently. This island is the new up and coming attraction amongst people that travel to Bali. Nusa Penida is located about an hour East of Bali, and you can only access this island by boat. When you are in Bali you shouldn't miss out on this island as it has some of the most unique things you will ever see.


There are so many ways to explore this island, but the best way to visit the island is on a one-day tour or a three-day trip. There are so many one-day tours to this tropical island that choosing one could be difficult. While we travelled to Bali, we decided to do a one day tour to Nusa Penida Island known as the West Trip.

The island is beautiful, but of course there are certain things that simply don’t work the way you are used to.

Make the most out of your trip to the island of Gods by following these Bali travel tips.

Stay safe on the road
If you’re using a motorbike to scoot around the island, always wear a helmet!

You may see many people on the roads without helmets, or in some cases even shirts, however, it is required by Indonesian law to wear and clip up your helmet when you ride, and, you will need one to stay safe.

Road accidents do happen, and it is better to be safe than sorry. Falling off your scooter hurts but having protective gear will minimize the damage.

If possible, also wear a jacket to prevent any scratches and to protect you from sun burn. If you plan to drive, make sure you have an international driving license.

If not, then simply order online transportation to commute around the island.

Expect hot sunny days
As a tropical island, Bali has the best weather all year long. Most days, you will be bathed in warm sunshine and it is best to always use a sunblock.

Forget your jeans. Pack your shorts, bikinis, sunglasses, and even bring a cap or a hat. Use cotton t-shirts and open toe-shoes.

Don’t forget to drink a lot of water as well, but not from a tap. Bring your own water bottle or purchase bottled water in mini markets instead.

Keep your belongings safe
Although Bali is a safe island, petty crime and snatch-theft does occasionally happen unfortunately. As a precaution, always use a safety deposit box if it is available in your hotel.

Keep your doors and windows locked at all times. When walking on the streets, always carry your bag in front of you and never flash any fancy items.

Avoid “Bali belly”
You don’t want to leave the island with bad memories of you rushing back and forth to the bathroom caused by “Bali belly” – basically, diarrhea triggered from consuming food and drinks with bad hygiene.

This is a relatively common ailment, but there are a number of ways to avoid it.

• Be cautious of where you are eating. Only eat from trustworthy restaurants.

• Drink filtered or bottled water only. Avoid getting water in your mouth during a shower.

Breathtaking Waterfalls: Tibumana, Tukad Cepung and Tegenungan

Balinese Culture

Barong Dance 
The Barong is triumphant display of graceful movement and vibrant colour. The dance is basically a contest between the opposing forces of Rangda - chaos and destruction, and Barong - order. (Basically good and evil.)

 Kecak Dance
The kecak is a ritual dance which was created in the early 1930's for the movie "Island of the Demons" by the German painter and intellectual Walter Spies. The dance combines the chorus of the "Sanghyang" trance dance with a dance story from the epic "Ramayana." It is extremely impressive with its circular chorus of sometimes over 100 bare-chested male singers.

There's probably more Bali temples than homes on the island. Many temples in Bali are actually shrines. However, the number of religious compounds might well be over 10,000. The number is spread throughout the far-flung corners of the island, from mountain and hilltops to low-lying coastal areas. Bali temples are normally peaceful and desolate. Sanur: A charming slice of Bali

Far enough away from the madness of Bali's most touristy destinations lies a seaside town that may seem unassuming at first, but soon gets under your skin for its easy charm, genuine local atmosphere and top quality visitor attractions.

Sanur is nestled on a long stretch of coast in the south east of the island, around 12 kilometres from Bali's international airport, making it a popular landing place to acclimatise on arrival in the Indonesian holiday island.

There are just about 100 steps down, and once at the bottom, you’ll see a giant cascade of water crashing down into the pebble pools below. Tanah lot Temple
For Balinese ,Tanah lot is one of the important and venerated sea templs.Like Pura Uluwatu,at the southern end of the island.The name of Tanah Lot Temple in tourism bibbliography about Bali almost never absent.The name Tanah Lot is probably from " Tanah Laut " means land in the sea.It is teh fact that the strong sea abrasion has separated the temple area with Bali mainland,so it looks that the temple nests on a small speck of rock building up on the ocean.
